I showed Alaska and Tashkent.
Tashkent won Best of Breed over half-sister Alaska
(1 year old) twice, and in the morning show, won Group 2 against Grand
champions, and then Group 3 in the afternoon show. This is his first
exhibition event since he was 5 months old. He is now 2 years, 4
months old, 35 inches tall, (88 cm), and 175 pounds (about 80 kg),
with at least 2 more years left before he is a mature male.

Tashkent BOB (photo by Rhonda Engelauf-Allen) |
He now
only needs one more win and Group placement to be an American
Champion in UKC. Then we begin his championship trials with
other organizations that specialize in rare breeds, like
American Rare Breed Association (ARBA), and the Rarities Show
Organization.
It was a hot day, and we had all the dogs in the
Guardian Group crowded under the small tent to keep them in the
shade. I am most pleased that Tashkent acted like a perfect
gentleman the entire time, and was even handled on the
showground by a two year old little girl without problems.
We set up our own tent to have shade for our
dogs, and were soon joined by the owner of two white German
shepherds, the mother of the little 2 year old girl. Our dogs
had no problems together.
Friends originally from Russia and Turkmenistan
joined us later in the day - Drs. Michael, Elvina, and their
Mother Vitkin (all 3 doctors), and Turkmenistan native Joseph -
so we had a grand crowd of spectators for Tashkent and Alaska to
perform for in the ring. Michael Vitkin is the owner of Alaska's
sister and littermate, MaxOMagic's Akula (Chatty), and they live
in Birmingham, Alabama.

Here is
a video of Tashkent being led around the showground by a
little 2 year old girl - Alyzia, not as tall as his shoulder.
And yet, he was gentleness in all things with her.

April 22th-23th, 2006
Old Line Kennel Club UKC
show event,
BelAir, Maryland
Judges: |
 |
On April 22, we traveled to the Old Line Kennel Club
UKC show in BelAir, Maryland for the show held April 22-23 at the
Equestrian Center. Again, the weather was raining and cold, but at
least we had covered pavilions to show under. The rest of the time, we
stood around either under the shelter, which kept the rain off but not
the wind, or sat in our cars near ringside.
Al Amir's Hammer and MaxOMagic's A'Sietsky were the
dogs I took, and I was joined there by Steve Nash and friend Dave Hull
to do the handling of the dogs. With the wet, brisk weather, both dogs
were raring to go. And it is such FUN to have white or nearly white
dogs in MUD, don't you know? At least the judges were very
understanding about what we had to encounter getting to and from the
rings.
On the first day, we were greatly surprised that
A'Sietsky defeated Hammer in the Breed Ring. She went on to get a
Group 3 and Group 4 in the Guardian Group that day, handled by Steve
Nash. This daughter of Nik Han and Angel is rapidly accumulating
points toward her UKC championship, even though barely a year old now.
On Sunday, Hammer finally got going well, and took both
Best of Breed wins, attaining his UKC Championship, and then a Group 2
and Group 3 in the Guardian Group. Dave Hull was handling him for the
wins, and I have to extend my deepest thanks to both Steve and Dave
for sharing their time and skills with me and my dogs on that weekend.

On Feb. 10-12, 2006, we traveled to the Pet Exposition
in Columbus, Ohio, for the Rarities Buckeye Classic exhibition. Royal
Gift of Asia's Nik Han was there to "meet the judges" and show them
the ideal for the Central Asian breed. Also along were MaxOMagic's
A'Sietsky, 11 months old, and my little Estrela Mountain Dog, Karabas
Keiterra Bonck My Bonck, 4 months old.
We met the judges on Friday night, Feb. 10th, and
enjoyed meeting the crowd of spectators who jammed the exposition to
see the rare breeds. Nik Han, A'Sietsky, and Bonck were all great
ambassadors for the two breeds, loving all the petting and attention
in the crowded building. There were 3 shows on Sat., Feb. 11th, and
A'Sietsky won a Group 3, Group 4, and a Group 2 against a large field
of Working Dogs, most fully adult, and many champions. Bonck, bless
his little heart, took a Group 2, a Group 1, and Best in Show Puppy in
the Puppy classes.
The next day, the weather was horrible, and we arrived
for more shows, but decided to only do the first one, as it was going
to be a long drive home. Showing A'Sietsky again against a very good
group of Working Dogs, we got into a "run-off" with a superior Cane
Corso. The other dogs in the Group were pulled to the side, and first
one of us and then the other had to make long circuits of the ring
while the judge watched every step. Then we had to go around and
around together, the adult Cane Corso and 11-month old A'Sietsky.
After what seemed like hours of running, the judge finally awarded the
Group First to the Cane Corso, and Group 2 to A'Sietsky, saying it
would have gone the other way if A'Sietsky was fully grown, not so
young. He praised her conformation, movement, and temperament. This
daughter of Nik Han and Angel did us proud that day, and for the
entire show. She never finished out of the ribbons in any show.

Al Amir's Hammer and MaxOMagic's
A'Sietsky (both owned by MaxOMagic) enjoyed exhibition at the CocaCola
Pet Exposition in Knoxville, Tennessee in early February. Hammer won
two Best in Show's, and one Group 2 placement. A'Sietsky, at 11
months old, and competing with the adults, earned one Group 3
placement.
It was
a really large exhibition, and we were very proud.
It was
good experience, and a happy occasion for Steve Nash and Victoria
Evans, shown with the judges, Mr. and Mrs. Chapman.
